Galls Holster Finder
Looking for a gun holster can be an overwhelming process due to the thousands of options to choose from. On top of that, there are other factors that play into the type of holster you will choose depending on if your firearm is a pistol or a revolver, the gun manufacturer, barrel length, etc.
With the Galls holster finder, we make it easier to narrow down the options to your specific firearm. Simply enter the gun manufacturer, model and type of light you have attached if applicable. The barrel length section will auto-generate after all the necessary inputs are entered. Then with the click of a button, our holster finder do the work for you.
Another thing to consider when choosing a holster is which carry style you’re most comfortable with. There are various types of holsters that will change how your firearm is carried including outside or inside the waistband, shoulder, ankle, pocket, and drop leg holsters. For a more in-depth view of how these carry styles work, please read the descriptions below.
Types of Holster Styles
Outside the Waistband (OWB) Holsters
OWB, outside the waistband, is a type of open carry holster that attaches to your gun belt. There are various styles of the OWB holster that will attach to your waistband in different ways. The most common options for attaching this holster include belt clips and the pancake holster which features holes on each side for weaving your belt through. There’s also the paddle holster option that utilizes a plastic paddle backing that slides into the inside of your waistband while the holster itself overlaps the outside.
One of the best OWB holster options many tactical professionals turn to is the BlackHawk Level III SERPA Auto Locking Holster. This BlackHawk holster is designed to provide you with the most natural draw on the market with its patented SERPA Auto Lock™. This SERPA holster technology helps disengage your firearm with one swift motion and is easily reholstered by activating the trigger guard.
Inside the Waistband (IWB) Holsters
IWB, inside the waistband, is one of the most common holsters used for concealed carry. It’s meant to fit between your body and the inside of your pants while the tension from your waistband and belt keeps the holster as stationary as possible.
There are multiple ways you can position the IWB holster around your waist such as the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions at your hips, the 6 o’clock position at the middle of your back and the 12 o’clock position at your belly button. There’s also an appendix carry option where you place the holster about halfway between your pant pocket and waistband button.
Designed for a low profile, the Uncle Mike’s Inside the Waistband Holster will provide a positive draw with its smooth nylon lining. This concealed carry holster is made up of a durable four-layer laminate construction that has an internal moisture barrier to prevent the transmission of perspiration onto the handgun. This Uncle Mike’s holster also features a belt clip and a fold-over hook-and-loop retention strap that releases quickly with the thumb.
Shoulder Holsters
The shoulder holster is the perfect concealed carry alternative to IWBs with the use of a blazer or jacket. It’s highly recommended for those who often have to sit for long periods of time. This type of holster is made up of straps that will cross over your shoulders and meet in the middle of your upper back. You’ll commonly find these with a magazine pouch on one side and the holster on the other.
The Fox Tactical Advanced Tactical Shoulder Holster is the best shoulder holster for easy-on, easy-off use. This shoulder harness comes with a double mag pouch, padded holster, and two web loops on each side for adjusting the handgun carry positions.
Drop Leg Holsters
The drop leg holster, also known as a thigh rig, is typically used by tactical operators as a secondary weapon attachment. This specialty holster helps provide easy access to your firearm without your bulky body armor or plate carrier getting in the way.
These leg holsters commonly have a strap that attaches to your duty belt and thigh straps that will keep it secured to your leg. The belt loop is then fastened by pulling the loop behind and over the belt so that it stays in place. Ideally, it should sit just past the groin area.
Many SWAT and military professionals favor the Safariland 6004 Tactical Leg Holster for its durability and long-term professional use. This thigh holster utilizes a Self Locking System (SLS) which is a specialized rotating hood that can only be released by pushing it down and rotating it forward at the same time. Its Safarilaminate™ construction makes this tactical holster impervious to moisture, bloodborne pathogens and will not break down over time.
Pocket Holsters
The pocket holster is yet another type of concealed carry that’s small enough to fit into the inside of your pant pocket. It’s designed to protect the trigger of smaller firearms and helps properly draw it from concealment. This type of holster is recommended to be carried in the front pant pocket, cargo pocket or in a jacket pocket. Keep in mind that tighter fit clothing can make it trickier to draw your firearm.
The DeSantis The Nemesis Holster is guaranteed not to move position in your pocket thanks to its stickiness. The inside is made from a slick pack cloth for a low friction draw while the core provides just the right amount of foam to break up the outline of the gun. This DeSantis Nemesis holster also allows for left or right-handed use.
Ankle Holsters
The ankle holster is also designed for smaller firearms and works perfectly as a backup gun option. These holsters typically have a wide neoprene or padded elastic strap with a holster pocket attached. It’s meant to be wrapped around your ankle with the firearm on the inside position of your support leg.
The Gould & Goodrich Ankle Holster allows you to comfortably wear your holster for extended periods of time. This holster features a wide ankle band with sheepskin padding and adjustable straps. It also includes a reinforced thumb break, molded leather and will fit most compact pistols and revolvers. This is the best ankle holster for left or right-handed orientation as well.
