When it comes to a public safety professional’s uniform, having a neat, professional appearance becomes a key factor in conveying trust and authority. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by keeping the uniform shirt tucked in at all times with the use of shirt stays and garters.

Shirt stays are elastic straps that clip onto the ends of the socks at one end and the bottom part of the shirt at the other for a neatly positioned, tucked-in appearance. There are a few different types of shirt stays including the straight (original), Y-clip and stirrup stay. All three will attach in a slightly different manner, but the result will stay the same. Types of Shirt Stays & Garters

The straight stay is the most basic version that comes as a set of four straps. Each leg will have two straps that attach to the outside part of the pant leg and shirttail. The Y-Clip comes as a set of two straps that are shaped like a “Y”. One end will have two clips that attach to the shirttail and the other will have a single clip for the sock. The stirrup stay takes away the need for clipping one end of the strap to the sock. This type of shirt stay is also shaped like a “Y” and will have a loop at one end that wraps around the foot and two clips at the other end for the shirttail.
