They can also be worn for various outdoor functions, such as hiking and other rigorous activities.

The ripstop fabric is made of thick threads crosshatched into a square pattern. This square pattern is then taken a step further than your typical method by tightly weaving extra synthetic fibers into increments of ⅛ an inch or smaller for that rip/tear resistance. The types of synthetic fibers used will vary, but typically come as nylon, polyester, or a poly-cotton blend, each with its own unique benefits.
