How to Measure

Measuring Chart Caps/Hats:
Measure just above the brow completely around the head. Convert inches to your hat/cap size in the chart below:

Head Size Hat Size
21-1/2"to22-1/8" Small(6-7/8 to 7)
22-1/4"to22-7/8" Medium(7-1/8 to 7-1/4)
23"to23-5/8" Large(7-3/8 to 7-1/2)
23-3/4"to24-3/8" X Large(7-5/8 to 7-3/4)

For Chest/Bust, Neck and Sleeve measurements, measure a shirt that fits you well.

Chest/Bust Size:
Measure just under the arms, completely around the back and across the broadest part of the chest area. Hold tape firm and level.

Neck:
Lay the collar flat and measure from the center of the collar button to the far end of the button hole. The number of inches equals your size.

Sleeve:
Measure from the center of the collar (in the back), across the shoulder and down the sleeve. Number of inches equals sleeve length.

Gloves:
Measure around hand and fullest part (exclude thumb). Number of inches equals glove size. Consult the chart given with gloves you are ordering to convert inches to the size you need for that product (i.e. S, M, L, XL, etc.).

Waist:
Measure around the waist, over shirt (not over pants) at the height you normally wear pants.

Womens Hips:
Stand with heels together and measure around the fullest part of hips.

Body Armor:
Manufacturers often ask for various measurements and size their products differently so be sure to get the specific measurements required by the manufacturer. While standing, have another person measure your upper torso. Use a cloth tape to take the measurements. Wear proper attire when being measured (i.e.: t-shirt, service duty belt, etc.). For accurate fit, stay relaxed: do not "suck in."

  1. Mid-Abdominal: Measure around back, just below rib cage and across thickest portion of stomach. Do not "suck in."
  2. Waist: With arms down, measure waist above the belt at the navel.
  3. Torso: Measure from the top of the notch in the sternum to the top of your duty belt. (For maximum comfort while sitting, your vest should come two fingers above your duty belt while standing.)
  4. Girth: is the larger of the waist or mid-abdominal measurement.
