Stream: A concentrated method, allowing you to blast a solid stream directly at your subject. It is easier to hit your target with a stream delivery system, especially if he or she is in a hard to reach area. Because of the density of the stream solution, accuracy is more important. If you are spraying from a contained area, like the inside of a car, misting action and blow-back to you are minimized.

Fogger: Recommended for situations involving crowds, multiple attackers and home use. The blast is less concentrated but will affect a wider area. After engaging the trigger or release button, operate the unit like a small fire extinguisher, in an up-and-down, side-to-side motion to spread the solution through the air. However, this method of delivery carries a higher degree of blow-back contamination.

Foam: Excellent for marking your subject while minimizing the risk of blow-back to yourself. For windy days or inclement weather conditions, this is a good choice of delivery system. The amber-colored foam is clearly visible, making it easier to aim and hit a small or moving target. Foam is sticky, with the consistency of shaving cream. Eyeglasses, sunglasses and goggles offer no protection. When sprayed, the concentrated foam sticks to the subject, then melts, covering the entire area of face and neck. Even when the subject attempts to wipe it away, the skin immediately absorbs the oil in the formula. It has been scientifically formulated to break down within minutes, resulting in a non-staining residue that is easy to clean up and non-vaporizing.

Cone: This is the most widely used type of spray dispenser because it combines several of the best features. It comes in the form of a fine mist made up of droplets of pepper solution that minimize the blow-back problem to you. The mist comes out in a high-powered, forceful spray pattern that will spread out up to 1 foot at its maximum distance, allowing you to effectively cover a subjects entire face. You get the directional quality of a stream while the mist spreads out to provide optimal coverage of a greater area.
